On the 7th floor of the NYSE is arguably the most exclusive restaurant in all of New York City: The 1792 Restaurant. The reason it’s so exclusive? It is impossible to make reservations, as it’s invitation only.

The 1792 Restaurant is named after the founding year of the Exchange, and is adorned with a large mural entitled “The Signing of the Buttonwood Agreement in 1792” by Vincent Maragliotti (completed in 1949). The piece depicts the 24 brokers signing the agreement under the eponymous tree that previously grew on Wall Street. Stock trading under this arrangement continued for several years in nearby coffeehouses and rented quarters. In 1865 the NYSE moved into its first permanent home at 10-12 Broad Street, and was later replaced in 1903 by its current home on 11 Wall Street.

At the bar of the 1792 Restaurant, you can see two smaller Margliotti murals on either side. To the left of the bar is the iconic NYSE Façade and Fraunces Tavern, and to the right is an illustration of Trinity Church and Federal Hall.
