France, Germany, and Britain Condemn Transfer of Iranian Missiles to Russia, Announce Sanctions on Iran Air
In a joint statement, the governments of France, Germany, and Britain condemned the transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia, calling it an escalation and a direct threat to European security. The announcement came after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed that Russia had received these missiles from Iran and was likely to use them in the war in Ukraine within weeks.
As a response, the three countries declared that they would cancel bilateral air services agreements with Iran and work towards sanctioning Iran Air. Additionally, the U.S. announced new sanctions, including on Iran Air, and Britain targeted Russian cargo ships involved in transporting military supplies from Iran to Russia.
Foreign Minister David Lammy emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that any transfer of ballistic missiles by Iran would face a significant response. The sanctions aim to hold accountable those facilitating Iran’s military support to Russia, particularly in the supply chains for ballistic missiles and drones.
