SHANGHAI/BEIJING – Shanghai braces for strongest typhoon since 1949, halts transportation links and shuts down tourist spots including Shanghai Disney Resort as Typhoon Bebinca approaches with winds of 144 km/h. The Category 1 storm is expected to make landfall along China’s eastern coast after midnight on Monday.

Shanghai, a financial hub, is typically spared from strong typhoons, but is taking precautions with Bebinca. Ships have been recalled in Zhejiang, while Shanghai Disney Resort and other attractions have been temporarily closed. More than 600 flights to and from Shanghai have been cancelled.

The arrival of Typhoon Bebinca coincides with the Mid-Autumn festival, a popular three-day holiday in China. The Ministry of Water Resources issued a Level-IV emergency response for potential flooding in Shanghai and neighboring provinces.

Analysis: Typhoon Bebinca poses a threat to Shanghai’s economy and infrastructure, with potential disruptions to transportation, tourism, and flight operations. Residents and businesses in the region should take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize financial losses during the storm.
