Revolutionizing Healthcare: The Future of Medicine
In the Young Doctors Union, where most doctors are still in the midst of their main training, chairperson Wendy Sophie Schou sees the government’s plans for a new reorganization of the healthcare system as a “golden opportunity” to do things differently, so that doctors are inspired to evolve.
– A whole new generation of doctors is emerging, with different aspirations for their careers, and if they are given the opportunity in areas where doctors are needed, they will move, thus we can change the inequality in healthcare that we see today, she says.
However, she also emphasizes that the aforementioned incentive is crucial for the success of this endeavor.
– What we know from young doctors is that in order for them to move, there need to be other factors in the places they are moving to. There should be more flexibility, good educational environments, and positive working conditions, says Wendy Sophie Schou.
Nevertheless, she also points out a pitfall that could derail the entire project. Because one thing is for doctors to be motivated to move out to rural areas and change the statistics, as highlighted by Mette Frederiksen at the press conference.
A completely different thing is for doctors to want to stay.
Therefore, she issues a warning:
– This must not be a quick fix. It is a fundamental task that we are now looking at how this can become a permanent solution, says Wendy Sophie Schou.
A better distribution of doctors is just one of several initiatives in the government’s new proposal. Read about the key points here.
