Tragic End for Baby Fur Seal Found Injured on Victorian Beach
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a baby fur seal was euthanised after being discovered on Bunga Beach in Victoria with a fractured spine and broken ribs. The juvenile sub-Antarctic fur seal was found by Lake’s Entrance resident Anne Kaiser, who stumbled upon the injured animal on September 17.
Discovery and Heartbreak
Anne Kaiser, a concerned resident, came across the fur seal and immediately notified the authorities about the distressing situation. She returned later in the day to check on the seal, expressing her heartbreak at seeing the poor creature in agony.
Disturbing Details
Upon further inspection, it was revealed that the fur seal had facial wounds and serious back injuries. Additionally, human and dog footprints were found surrounding the animal, indicating potential human interference in the seal’s plight. A large stick was also discovered next to the injured seal, raising suspicions of foul play.

Despite efforts to save the seal, a veterinarian determined that its spine was fractured and several ribs were broken, leaving the animal with no chance of survival. The decision was made to euthanise the baby fur seal to prevent further suffering.
