Female Students Dominate New Intake at Universiti Malaysia Sabah
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) welcomed 4,545 new students for the 2024/2025 academic session, with female students making up the majority of the intake.
Key Statistics:
- Female students represent 67% of the new intake.
- Almost a quarter of the new students are Sabahans, showcasing the university’s focus on local talent.
- 3,640 students were placed at the main campus, 701 at the Labuan International Campus, and 204 at Sandakan.
- 15 international students from Japan, Pakistan, China, Brunei, and Indonesia were also welcomed.
Commitment to Student Welfare:
UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor, highlighted the university’s initiatives to support student welfare:
- 1,877 students have received assistance totaling over RM570,000 through the Student Welfare Trust Fund.
- Nine students have been selected for financial support under the Sulung 1.0 program, benefiting youths from the B40 income group.
- Over RM1.3 million has been allocated to support 293 students under Sulung 2.0.
