Opel Makes Way for BYD in Singapore

Exciting news in the automotive industry as Opel, the German brand, makes room for BYD, the Chinese carmaker, at Alpine Centre in Singapore. This move marks BYD’s first showroom in the eastern part of Singapore for their luxury car brand, Denza.

Continued Support for Opel Owners

  • Opel owners can still visit the existing workshop at Alpine Centre for maintenance and repair.
  • No changes to warranty terms or service arrangements for Opel vehicles.

Future Plans for Opel Showroom

While the Opel showroom may be relocated within the building, details are still being finalized by Alpine Group’s director, Mr. Keith Pang.

Exciting Offerings

  • Opel currently offers three electric passenger car models and three electric commercial vehicle models for sale.
  • BYD and Denza will display a total of 10 cars in the showroom – five of each model.

Joint-Venture Partnership

The showroom will be operated by Harmony Auto in partnership with Alpine, providing customers with a top-notch experience.

Expanding Reach

  • The Ubi showroom will be Denza’s second facility in Singapore, joining the existing location at Alexandra Road.
  • Alpine Centre will also house maintenance and workshop facilities for BYD and Denza customers.

History and Partnerships

  • Alpine took on Opel’s distributorship in 2011, following their success with the Chevrolet dealership in 2007.
  • Opel was sold by General Motors to the PSA Group in 2017, leading to Alpine’s continued representation of the brand.

Looking Ahead

In 2022, Alpine partnered with BlueSG to supply 1,000 units of the Opel Corse-e for an electric vehicle-sharing service.

Analysis

This expansion of BYD into the Singapore market not only showcases the growing presence of Chinese automotive brands but also highlights the shift towards electric vehicles in the industry. Opel’s continued support for existing owners and partnerships with innovative services like BlueSG indicate a commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction. As the automotive landscape evolves, consumers can expect more options and advancements in technology, ultimately shaping the future of transportation.
