‘Meget beklageligt’
Director Jens Jensen expresses regret in the documentary due to the deplorable working conditions captured on film.
“It is very regrettable if they (migrant workers) have not received instruction. I must be the first to apologize for that. It goes against our instructions and procedures. It is completely my responsibility. We have a duty to instruct and full responsibility as an employer,” he says.
Jens Jensen emphasizes that he is not aware of his employees handling asbestos without the proper training, as depicted in the documentary.
“So, there is deception happening somewhere. We actually receive asbestos certificates for the employees who go out. Whether they are forged, I cannot say for sure.”
“I know that our mole does not have such a certificate, and that is why I would like to see it if it exists?”
“You are very welcome to see all the documentation we have,” he says.
After the interview, the director discovers that J. Jensen Demolition does not have the mentioned certificates for the Argentine employees.
Problems Persist
The documentary team takes several precautions to ensure that DR’s undercover worker, Rodrigo Perea, does not fall ill from asbestos exposure. Therefore, he is instructed to always wear protective gear and how to handle the work.
However, the footage shows migrant workers on the roof snapping asbestos sheets in connection with the demolition, causing the dangerous asbestos to dust up in the air.
Jens Jensen acknowledges the seriousness of the situation, and he is “very shaken” by the way the demolition is being carried out as shown in the recordings.
“It is dangerous and deadly if not handled correctly and if the personal protective gear provided is not used. Especially when they break it down in this way.”
