Brazilian street artist Mundano has created a powerful mural using ash from forest fires and mud from flooding in Brazil to send a strong message against deforestation.

The 48-meter by 30-meter mural in Sao Paulo depicts the devastation caused by deforestation, with a face of an Indigenous woman holding a sign that reads: “Stop the Destruction.”

Mundano used natural pigments from forest fires in Brazil, including the Amazon, and mud from flooding in southern Brazil to create the mural. The woman in the mural is Indigenous leader Alessandra Korap Munduruku, known for her successful campaign against multinational mining companies.

The mural serves as a protest against businesses that have expanded into the Amazon rainforest for soy plantations and cattle ranching, making Brazil a top food exporter. It specifically targets U.S. grain trader Cargill Inc, urging them to eliminate deforestation from their supply chain.

The collaboration with conservation nonprofit Stand.earth highlights the urgent need to protect the Amazon and Indigenous lands from further destruction. The use of natural pigments and Indigenous clay symbolizes the connection between nature and Indigenous communities.

This mural is a call to action for individuals and businesses to prioritize environmental conservation and support Indigenous rights. It is a reminder of the impact of deforestation on our planet and the importance of sustainable practices for the future.
