The Early Completion of Roadworks on D1 Highway Exit in Bratislava

On November 24, 2024, at 3:26 PM, the roadworks were successfully completed ahead of schedule.

Full Reopening of D1 Highway Exit in Bratislava

BRATISLAVA. The traffic on the D1 highway exit from Bratislava is now fully restored.

The works that required the closure of the road were completed ahead of schedule. Additionally, the D4 branch from Jarovce to D1 is now open for traffic.

Announcement by Transport Minister and NDS CEO

Transport Minister Jozef Ráž and National Highway Company CEO Filip Macháček announced this at a Sunday press briefing.

“From now on, the artery from Jarovce, meaning from Austria to D1, will be passable, allowing drivers to use the southern bypass of Bratislava with a connection to D1. This will significantly ease the traffic flow out of Bratislava,” stated Ráž.

Macháček pointed out that the works on the branch from Jarovce were completed earlier than originally planned. He added that next weekend (November 29 – December 1), they will again close the D1 highway for works on connecting the second branch, from Trnava to Rača.

Future Plans for D1 Highway Closure

NDS tentatively plans to gradually close the D1 highway towards Bratislava from Trnava on Friday, November 29, starting at 8:00 PM. Full closure is expected by 10:00 PM.

“We will discuss whether it would be better to close the access to Bratislava earlier on Friday and then have the possibility to reopen it earlier on Sunday,” Macháček added.

Importance of the Roadworks

The connection of the branches required the temporary closure of the highway from Zlaté Piesky to Senec intersection, as some works could not be carried out while maintaining traffic.

The construction of the D1/D4 intersection and the expansion of D1 near Bratislava are among the most significant investments in road infrastructure in western Slovakia.

The current state of the highway no longer met the technical or capacity requirements of the many motorists who pass through the section daily. The connection of the bypass and D1 will relieve Bratislava from transit traffic.
