The Canberra Region Visitors Centre Shines at the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards
Staffed by VisitCanberra, the Canberra Region Visitors Centre (CRVC) located in Commonwealth Park has been recognized as the best Visitor Information Service in Australia at the prestigious 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. This award not only highlights the excellence of the CRVC but also showcases the outstanding tourism industry in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
Gold Awards
The CRVC stands out by offering an exceptional experience to both visitors and locals, welcoming approximately 220,000 visitors annually. Many tourists make the CRVC their first stop, setting the tone for their exploration of the city. In addition to the CRVC, two other local entrants from the ACT also received gold awards at the ceremony:
- The National Capital Authority was recognized for the Lights on the Lake event in the Events and Festivals category.
- The Royal Australian Mint was awarded in the Cultural Tourism category.
Silver Awards
Further adding to the ACT’s success at the awards, several other local businesses took home silver awards:
- The Museum Shop at the National Museum of Australia was honored in the Tourism, Retail, and Hire Services category.
- Alivio Tourist Park received recognition for Caravan and Holiday Parks.
- Jamala Lodge was acknowledged for its Unique Accommodation offerings.
Bronze Award
The National Arboretum was awarded bronze in the Ecotourism category, adding to the diverse range of tourism experiences available in the ACT.
Ongoing Success and Future Growth
Canberra’s tourism industry continues to thrive, with record leisure and visiting friends and family (VFR) numbers in the past year. The city’s events, venues, and businesses consistently introduce new and enticing experiences for visitors, contributing to the overall growth of the industry.
The ACT Government’s tourism 2030 strategic vision aims to elevate the value of tourism to the ACT economy to $4 billion by 2030. This vision focuses on creating a sustainable and thriving destination that not only attracts tourists but also benefits the local community.
