EXCLUSIVE: The grandson of Valerie Paterson, a 70-year-old grandmother who was brutally stabbed in a frenzied attack, has shared his thoughts on the incident with 9News.
Family Describes Valerie Paterson as a Strong and Kind Woman
Speaking outside the hospital where Valerie is being treated, Bailey Paterson described his grandmother as a strong and kind-hearted person.
“She’s always there for people, she’s opened her home up to people… if they need a place to stay. For this to happen… I can’t even describe it, it’s ridiculous,” Bailey said.
“I am still trying to process it and put it all into words. It sucks. You hear about it on the news all the time, then for it to happen to you, it’s just mind-blowing to think about.”
Details of the Attack and Current Condition
Police and paramedics responded to a unit in Logan, near Brisbane, just after midnight where they found Valerie Paterson with life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to the PA Hospital for treatment.
A 28-year-old individual, who is known to regularly stay at Valerie’s address, was arrested in connection with the attack.
Valerie Paterson’s Resilience
Despite facing numerous health challenges in recent years, including beating breast cancer and undergoing two hip replacements, Valerie’s grandson emphasized her resilience and positive outlook on life.
Police Investigation and Public Safety
Authorities have stated that there is no wider threat to the public in connection with this incident. At the moment, charges have not been laid against the suspect.
