During the past month, fund investors have been net sellers of small-cap funds, real estate funds, and green energy funds.
“This is the fourth month in a row that small-cap funds have topped the list of the most net sold fund categories. The turnaround for small companies has likely been slower than expected, and when there have been other sectors performing significantly better, patience may have worn thin. The low interest can also be attributed to the cautious interest rate path communicated by the Riksbank. With fewer interest rate cuts, a recovery risks losing momentum. Despite the lack of buying interest among fund investors, we can see that the five most owned small-cap funds at Avanza have on average increased by nearly 20 percent over the past year,” explained Avanza’s private economist, Felicia Schön.
At Nordnet, customers were once again drawn to adding Swedish funds to their portfolios, according to savings economist Frida Bratt. The most purchased fund of the month was Nordnet Sweden Index.
Global and US funds also featured on the list of most purchased funds in January.
“Global funds are the foundation of many people’s monthly savings, and that is not likely to change anytime soon. I hope that many savers are now aware that global funds are almost similar to US funds, as was evident during the AI frenzy. It is important to complement your global fund with investments in Sweden, Europe, and emerging markets,” stated Frida Bratt.
