Canberrans residing in the southern region of the city are on the brink of experiencing a significant improvement in their healthcare options. Two crucial projects, namely the South Tuggeranong Health Centre and the Southside Hydrotherapy Pool, have recently achieved significant milestones, promising enhanced healthcare services for the local community.

South Tuggeranong Health Centre
The South Tuggeranong Health Centre is gearing up to become a vital healthcare hub in the region, offering a wide range of essential services to residents. The facility, once completed, will provide:
- Paediatric care
- Diabetes clinics
- Falls and falls injury prevention programs
- Chronic disease management services
- A virtual care room for remote consultations
By bringing these services closer to home, the new health centre aims to ensure convenient access to necessary medical care for southside residents. The facility’s design has been meticulously crafted through extensive engagement with healthcare professionals and the local community, resulting in a layout that includes 11 consultation rooms and a flexible floor plan. The ACT Government has partnered with Shape, a leading construction company, to oversee the construction of this state-of-the-art health centre.
Southside Hydrotherapy Pool
The construction of the hydrotherapy pool at Lakeside Leisure Centre is progressing smoothly and is expected to be completed later this year. Recent developments include the pouring, testing, and curing of the pool’s concrete shell, with construction now focusing on tiling the pool and erecting the surrounding building. Additionally, a new creche and community room are being added to enhance the leisure centre’s amenities, providing members with more facilities to enjoy.
Expanding Healthcare Services Across Canberra
These projects are part of a broader initiative across the ACT to bring high-quality healthcare services closer to residents’ doorsteps. In addition to the South Tuggeranong Health Centre and the Southside Hydrotherapy Pool, new health centres are also being established in North Gungahlin, the Inner South, and West Belconnen.
