“A C-27J Spartan aircraft from the Romanian Air Force carried out a mission on the route Bucharest-Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan – Bucharest, to repatriate nine individuals, Romanian citizens and their family members, in the context of the deteriorating security situation in the Gaza Strip.
The aircraft landed at the 90th Airlift Base in Otopeni on Wednesday, May 7th, around 2:00 AM,” the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) stated in a press release.
Transport Mission Details
The airlift mission was executed at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the team accompanying the repatriated individuals during the flight consisted of specialists from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense.
The nine citizens were initially picked up from the Gaza Strip and transported to Jordan by a consular team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Previous Repatriation Efforts
In April, eight of the Palestinian patients brought in from the Gaza Strip were transferred to Norway via a Spartan aircraft.
“A C-27J Spartan aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force took off on the evening of April 9th towards Oslo, Norway, with eight patients and 13 family members who had returned from Israel on the same evening.
Other patients were transported to Malta and Luxembourg with aircraft from EU partner states, while four patients and eight family members remained in Romania for medical care,” a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) mentioned.
