Bulldogs Win in NRLW Despite ‘Disgraceful’ Act

There is no NRLW match today, so we’ll focus on Thursday night’s clash at Campbelltown, where Canterbury continued their winning start to their debut season with a 12-8 victory against Wests Tigers. However, they had to do it with 12 players after a wild fight saw Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa sent to the sin bin late on. Teakaraanga-Katoa was sent to the sideline after a push-and-shove with Tigers back-rower Montana Clifford. NRL journalist and ABC co-commentator Pamela Whaley was pretty disappointed with the forward’s actions. "A pretty shocking look for a leader of the club," Whaley said on ABC Sport. "That was disgraceful." You can read all about the match in our wrap below.

Papenhuyzen to Miss Newcastle Trip as Storm Rotate

Ryan Papenhuyzen will again be missing from Melbourne’s line-up this weekend as coach Craig Bellamy shuffles his team once more to accommodate injury and post-State of Origin fatigue. Last weekend Papenhuyzen was a late withdrawal against North Queensland with calf tightness and the fullback has been forced out of Saturday’s match against Newcastle too. Nick Meaney, the two-try hero from Townsville, will again move from the centres and into fullback. Bellamy had five players involved in the NSW and Queensland series decider in Sydney, and two — Maroons five-eighth Cameron Munster and winger Xavier Coates — have been rested and did not travel with the team. Tyran Wishart will again partner Dally M winner Jahrome Hughes in the halves after teaming up in the 26-20 win over the Cowboys. The Knights game is a homecoming of sorts for the Storm’s Jonah Pezet and Grant Anderson, who enjoyed their junior football in the Hunter. Pezet played his first NRL game in more than a year last weekend, with 28 minutes off the bench as a halves utility. He tore his ACL against Newcastle in round three last year but on his return through NSW Cup in April this year, he had to undergo further knee surgery. "He’s had to do a lot of work to get back," Bellamy said. "With all due respect if you asked the question we probably wouldn’t be thinking he’d be playing first grade so early. But he’s trained well, looked after himself well. After what he’s been through he expects, and we do too, for him to get a little bit better each game he plays." The Knights are coming off a bye and also have backs Fletcher Hunt and Greg Marzhew and prop Leo Thompson returning.

    Kieran Foran Retires

Before we get into tonight’s game, some news from the Titans. Granted, it’s probably not the news that some people were expecting as rumours swirl around Robina like the roulette ball in Surfers Paradise around coach Des Hasler. No, it was Kieran Foran, who detailed how he defied a broken body and the logic of retirement for years before finally deciding this will be his last season in the NRL. One of rugby league’s great survivors, Foran confirmed on Friday he will retire at the end of the season – his 17th – set to finish with close to 315 games to his name. The Gold Coast playmaker will move into a mentoring role with the Titans, while also likely juggling media commitments as part of life after football. Read more here.

    Good Evening Folks

Hello everyone and welcome to the live action from NRL Round 19! State of Origin is done for another year, meaning all the rugby league interest is focused on the race for the finals – and these two teams in action tonight are well and truly in that race, albeit running at very different paces at the moment. The Sharks had a woeful June, tumbling out of the eight like a stone and may have thought about investing in a modified DeLorean to try and go back and start again. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are on the rampage… if that’s something dolphins do, flying up the table like Tadej Pogačar attacking up a French Alp. Both teams are level on 20 competition points but feel worlds apart in terms of their outlook. My name is Simon Smale and I am here to bring you all the action as it happens over the next couple of hours, as we see what effect the bye has had on both these squad’s form.
